Senior Clinical Scholarship (Resident) in Bovine Health Management (with Masters in Veterinary Medicine)

The farm animal team at the University of Glasgow, School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine comprises of an exciting mix of clinical vets and researchers. We are seeking a competent veterinary graduate with farm animal experience to contribute to, and learn from, our diverse and dynamic team. The successful applicant will enrol as a post-graduate student to undertake a clinical residency training and research Masters degree, gaining both clinical expertise and research skills in the chosen area. Throughout the four-year program, the resident will have increasing responsibility for the delivery of routine and problem-solving farm investigation visits (dairy and beef), primary care of individual animals (on farm and referred) and teaching veterinary students. They will study towards a Diploma with the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM) and complete a Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine (MVM) through clinical research.


Related Research project:
Investigation of the parasite control status of an island population of dairy youngstock and the implementation of sustainable, integrated parasite control. This project will aim to investigate the current parasite control management practices on the Isle of Bute in grazing dairy youngstock, including the current parasiticide susceptibility of gastrointestinal and, where applicable, respiratory helminths. Ultimately aiming to implement and monitor farm-level sustainable, integrated parasite control programmes on dairy farms on Bute.

The position lasts four years (renewed annually, subject to satisfactory progress). The initial stipend is £26,875 (PAYE / TAX exempt), increasing to £28,217 by the fourth year plus £1500 CPD allowance per annum.

Combined 4-year Residency and Masters Programme in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology

CLINICAL SCHOLAR TRAINING PROGRAMMECombined 4-year Residency and Masters Programme in Veterinary Clinical Pathology

Graduates with at least one year’s experience in a relevant field (clinical work, research, field work, etc.) are invited to apply for a combined Scholarship and Master`s degree by research. Applicants must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or hold a veterinary degree qualifying them for membership. The successful candidate is expected to sit board-certification examinations of the European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP) or American College of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP).

The training programme requires participation in the Division`s veterinary diagnostic services (strong focus on necropsy service with a more minor biopsy component), undertaking a Masters research project and contribution to small-group teaching of veterinary students (please also see http://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/vet/cad/residencytraining/#Overview). The Masters (MVM) project associated with the residency programme will immunohistochemically characterise fibroblasts of different species in health and disease.

Scholarships are renewed annually, subject to satisfactory progress. The initial stipend is £26,875(PAYE exempt) and rises to £28,217 by the fourth year. £1,500 per annum is available for attendance at conference(s), examination fees and externship costs. The proposed start date is 1 September 2025.
